Westfield Parish Council statement on the sad death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II

“It is with great sadness that Westfield Parish Council has learned of the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. I know everyone in Westfield Parish would join me in extending our sincere condolences to the whole Royal Family at this very sad time.” Cllr Hamish Monro, Chairman, Westfield Parish Council.

A Book of Condolence for Her Majesty has been placed at St John the Baptist Church for residents to sign. We hope many residents will write their messages in book at the Church. The Royal Family have also set up an online Book of Condolence for the Queen at https://www.royal.uk/send-message-condolence. The Church have also suggested any resident wishing to lay flowers in honour of Her Majesty the Queen can place these outside on the left hand side of the church door. The Parish Council would like to thank the Church for organising the Book of Condolence and providing a central point in the Parish to lay flowers.

The next scheduled meeting on the 14th September will be postponed until after the funeral of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. The day to day running of the Council will be delegated to the Clerk during this time.

Annual Parish Assembly 25th May

Westfield Parish Council invited all residents across the Parish to celebrate the community of Westfield and all they have achieved over the last few years. We had a wide range of sport clubs, clubs and local charities attend the session as well as many residents. It was very well attended and thanks were given to all residents and volunteers over the last few years especially those who kept groups going, the local businesses who adapted during the pandemic and all the volunteers who took food and medications out to residents. Special thanks were given to Ken Munday and all the volunteers involved in the amazing Westfield Lights having raised over £100k for St Michael’s Hospice as well as Robbie Jones for all of his hard work maintaining the church yard.

Residents are always welcome to attend the Parish Council meetings to discuss any local matter or ask questions to the Officer or Parish Councillors. It would help to have any questions prior to the meeting so we can try to get an answer for you.

Westfield Community Fiber Project – May 2022 update

We are now in the final stages of getting the final sign off from the Department of Culture, Media and Sports. Despite not reaching the initial full target, with the first scheme seeing the level of vouchers pledged has enabled us to review the situation with Openreach. A second demand led scheme is in the final stages of sign off and we are still hoping to get over 800 properties within the Parish upgraded in the scheme. Hopefully the scheme will be open in the next week and we can ask people to pledge their voucher. If very one who pledged the first time round does again with a few more signing up we will hit our 100% target to get the scheme delivered!
