- Message from Southern Gas Networks plc – Gas Network Upgrade – Chowns Hill, Hastings, Road Closure from Monday 1st September – Duration 10 Weeks
- We’re preparing to carry out essential gas network upgrades along Chowns Hill in Hastings. This work will ensure a continued safe and reliable supply of gas is delivered to nearby homes and businesses and is part of our 30-year programme of work to replace our old mains, reaching the end of their useful lives, with new, reliable plastic pipe.
- Our contractor, Forefront Utilities, who are completing this project on our behalf, will be starting work on Monday 1 September. For everyone’s safety we’ll need to close Chowns Hill in sections around our excavations for the duration of our work.
We’ll be working along Chowns Hill from the junction with The Ridge down to the junction with Ivy House Lane. - Signed diversions will be in place for through traffic while the road is closed. Access will be maintained for residents and businesses within the works area although at times this may need to be via the signed diversion route. The team on site will liaise with residents and businesses about changing access points. Pedestrian access will not be affected. Cyclists will need to dismount and walk through the closure point.
- We understand roadworks can be frustrating. However, the new plastic pipe has a lifespan of 80 years. This means that once our work is done, Hastings residents and businesses will be able to enjoy the benefits of a safe and reliable supply of gas for many years to come.
