What is the Draft Local Plan

A Local Plan is a requirement for the Local Planning Authority (LPA) to have a plan which “guides decisions on future development proposals and addresses the needs and opportunities of the area. Topics that Local Plans usually cover include housing, employment and shops and they also identify where development should take place and areas where development should be restricted.” https://www.planningaid.co.uk/hc/en-us/articles/203126442-What-is-a-Local-Plan.

Currently Rother’s 2014 Local Plan is in need of updating and Rother are now at what is called the draft (regulation 18) stage. This is the opportunity for Parish Councils and members of the public to feedback there views about the proposed plan.

Rother have a dedicated website at: https://www.rother.gov.uk/planning-and-building-control/planning-policy/emerging-local-plan/local-plan-review/. On this page is the link to the main draft Local Plan which includes all of the proposed policies etc across the District. However, it also has Westfield Parish specific items on there as well.

WESTFIELD PARISH PUBLIC EXHIBITION – 22nd June 2024

Rother Officers are coming to Westfield Parish on the 22nd June for a public exhibition. This will be an opportunity for residents to come and ask questions about the Local Plan. It is being held in Westfield Community Hall. For details on what will be shown at the exhibition please click here. Other events are being held for residents across June 2024 and please click here for a list of dates.

This is so important for ALL RESIDENTS within Westfield to feedback on the Local Plan but specifically the sections on Westfield and the sites being proposed in the HELAA (Housing and Economic Land Availability Assessment). This Local Plan will decide where the sites for development in Westfield will be. This is because Westfield Parish Council has currently not opted to have a Neighbourhood Plan.

At the moment an additional 50 houses within the village has been identified with the ‘potential sites’. Click on the ‘Proposed Sites’ link below for further details.
